Docs / Using AirMouse

Live screen

The computer's display above the trackpad: a monitor in your hand, so you can see what you are driving.

The Mac's screen, live, above the pad.

Turning it on

Tap the display button above the trackpad and keyboard buttons. The picture appears above the pad: the cursor you are moving, the menu you opened, the dialog that wants an answer.

  • Pinch to zoom in place, drag to pan, double-tap to zoom in.
  • Tap to open it full screen, at the computer's native resolution.

It is a monitor, not a control surface: the gestures stay on the pad below.

Where it works

MacYes. Needs Screen Recording for AirMouse Server, asked the first time
Linux on X11Yes
Linux on WaylandNot yet: Wayland does not let apps read the screen the way X11 does
WindowsNot yet

The button only appears when the connected computer supports it.

How it stays light

The screen is sent as small JPEG tiles, and only the tiles that changed travel. A still screen costs almost nothing. The cursor has its own tiny channel, so it moves smoothly even when the picture is busy. The panel view runs at about 10 frames a second, full screen at up to 20.

If no picture arrives within 12 seconds, the phone says so and offers Try again; the computer's display may still be waking.
