Troubleshooting

What to do when the computer does not appear, the cursor does not move, or the connection keeps dropping.

The computer does not appear

  1. Check that AirMouse Server is running on the computer: open it again, and its pairing page should open in the browser.
  2. Check that both are on the same network. The phone shows its own address; the computer's is on the pairing page.
  3. On the iPhone, allow Local Network: Settings → AirMouse → Local Network.
  4. Guest networks and many hotel, office and campus Wi-Fi networks stop devices from seeing each other. Tap Type the address instead and enter the address from the pairing page, or scan its QR code.
  5. A Windows or Linux computer must be on the same Wi-Fi; only a Mac can sometimes be reached directly.

"The computer never answered"

AirMouse is not running there, or a firewall is blocking port 1978.

  • Windows: make sure your network is set to Private (Settings → Network & internet → your network). The firewall rule covers private networks only.
  • Mac: check System Settings → Network → Firewall → Options, and allow AirMouse Server.
  • VPN: a VPN on either device can move it off the local network. Turn it off, or allow local network access in the VPN app.

The cursor does not move

The phone shows the reason from the computer.

  • Mac: System Settings → Privacy & Security → Accessibility → turn on AirMouse Server. If it is already on, turn it off and on again.
  • Linux: run airmouse-server --doctor. If it offers uinput access, accept it and log out and back in. On Wayland, approve the remote-desktop dialog when it appears.

It does not work after restarting the Mac

The Mac app does not start by itself. Open AirMouse Server from Applications, or add it to System Settings → General → Login Items.

Pairing problems

  • No Allow box appeared: the computer opens a pairing page in its browser after about 45 seconds; use its code or QR. If there is no page, open AirMouse Server again.
  • "Wrong PIN": codes are single use and change after every pairing. Use the code shown now on the pairing page, not an older screenshot.
  • "PIN locked": after five wrong tries the code changes. Read the new one on the computer.

The live screen stays black

On a Mac, turn on Screen Recording for AirMouse Server in System Settings → Privacy & Security; it starts working by itself. On Linux it needs an X11 session.

The clipboard does not arrive on Linux

Install wl-clipboard on Wayland, or xclip on X11.

Still stuck

Write to geral@brunescco.com with your phone model, the computer's system and what the phone says. The computer app's log helps too:

SystemLog file
Mac~/Library/Logs/AirMouse-server.log
Windows%LOCALAPPDATA%\AirMouse\airmouse-server.log
Linux~/.local/state/AirMouse/airmouse-server.log
